VENUE: Left Bank Leeds

This series of talks explored the history of the buildings and people of Leeds from the monks of the 12th century through to present day. |Starting with a walking tour from Left Bank Leeds to Kirkstall Abbey to explore how the former St Margaret's of Antioch Church, now Left Bank Leeds, relate to its surroundings.

The evening walk uncovered some of the links going as far back as the 12th century in a story of changing land ownership and different phases of building, all linked by route-ways, the changing economy and needs of the evolving neighbourhoods to the west of Leeds. It was led by Rachael Unsworth, author and former university lecturer with over 20 years experience studying the city of Leeds, writing about it, teaching about it and debating policies and initiatives to shape the future of the city.

The series included 19 events that attracted over 1,200 attendees. There were delivered with guest speakers covering topics including Historic Pubs, Cuthbert Broderick, Armley Jail, Industrial Revolution, Canals & Waterways and much more.

These events were part of a larger project celebrating heritage and were made possible with thanks to the support from NLHF.
